CWP to Build Bulgaria's Largest Wind Farm Using World-First Carbon-Neutral Cement

CWP and Heidelberg Materials Devnya have signed a preliminary partnership agreement for the development of CWP's new wind farm in Bulgaria. The planned investment exceeds 300 million euros, which will make the project the largest wind farm in the country upon commissioning. The strategic partnership between the two companies creates a unique circular economy model, combining green energy and the decarbonisation of industry.

The agreement stipulates that the foundation structures of the facilities will be built using EvoZero, the world's first carbon-neutral cement. In this way, sustainable building materials become the very foundation of new green energy infrastructure — a synergy that embodies both companies' vision for a low-carbon future.

Once operational, the wind farm will supply a portion of its clean electricity output to the cement production facility in Devnya, enabling a significant reduction in carbon emissions from industrial processes. The partnership has the potential to create an effective circular economy model in which Heidelberg Materials' carbon-neutral cement is used to build the foundations of CWP's wind farm, the wind farm produces green electricity for the needs of the plant, and the plant in turn produces materials with an even lower carbon footprint.

The partnership between CWP and Heidelberg Materials Devnya demonstrates how collaboration between the energy and industrial sectors can accelerate Bulgaria's decarbonisation and create additional jobs. The combination of cutting-edge clean energy technologies and low-carbon building materials sets a new standard for sustainable development and shows what is possible when two companies with a shared vision work together towards a cleaner and more competitive future.

"Wind projects will bring a number of positive effects for the country, and a partnership with a leader in sustainable cement production further amplifies this impact. Beyond the environmental benefits, this collaboration also supports job creation and added value here in Bulgaria," said Viktor Garbev, Executive Vice President, CWP Europe.
"The collaboration between CWP and Heidelberg Materials Devnya demonstrates how sustainable solutions can thrive even in a changing economic and institutional environment," noted Mihail Polendakov, Chief Executive Officer of Heidelberg Materials Devnya AD.
"This is a good example of how two companies with similar views and goals related to environmental protection can cooperate and support each other in achieving their objectives. This partnership exemplifies the diverse approach to decarbonisation activities at Heidelberg Materials Devnya," stated Mihail Lazarov, Commercial Director of Heidelberg Materials Devnya AD.
